Google Pixel 8 Model Lacks Sufficient Power to Support Gemini Nano AI Technology
Google has shared some bad news for those who purchased the latest Pixel 8 model in recent months. We all know that Tensor chip powered by artificial intelligence offers reliable performance and other great features. The Pixel 8 Pro is one of the first phones to benefit from Gemini Nano AI technology, but unfortunately Google believes that the Pixel 8 is not powerful enough to run the AI model.
Google has talked about “hardware limitations” with the Pixel 8, which is why it likely won’t support an AI model. As you may know, the Pixel 8 series has different hardware, only when it comes to RAM.
The Pixel 8 has 8GB of RAM, while the 8 Pro has 12GB of RAM, which Google says is needed to run the nano version of Gemini AI on the smartphone. We assume that this could be the only reason why the company skipped the Pixel 8 model because of the device’s AI technology.
Google recently confirmed the update in a webcast, where it also noted that Gemini Nano AI will only come to high-end devices, which include Samsung Galaxy S series models, Pixels, and likely some phones from the likes of OnePlus, Oppo, and more.
It’s interesting to see that Google is leaving the Pixel 8 out of its AI integration altogether, and people who bought the phone are feeling bad about this decision, which doesn’t bode well for a brand that’s facing a tough battle in the premium market.
Google introduced Gemini AI in several versions, and the Nano is the smallest one that can run AI models on the device. The company is already rolling out Nano AI for older Pixel models, which should be available with the March Pixel update features for existing Pixel users.
